In our community in southern Jerusalem, we’ve found strength in carrying this load together, uplifting each other with spiritual and material support.
As Jews, we’re all family, and we’re better off when we reach out our hands to catch anyone who starts to falter, knowing they’ll catch us, too.
Seeing how much resilience this gives us, we’ve made it our mission as a shul and a community to extend hope and healing across all of Israel.
We’re already making a difference

“After Galant was fired, tensions in Israel boiled over. I attended a ‘Dialogue Across Divides’ event at Avi and Rachel’s home and stayed late into the night. For the first time, I truly listened to—and was listened to by—those with opposing views. I kept coming back, and it changed both how I see ‘the other’ and my entire life.”

“I was called up in the middle of a holiday meal and left without hesitation—leaving behind my wife and young kids. What got me through was knowing B’orcha was there for my family: delivering meals, checking in, even organizing support groups. My wife never felt alone, and that meant everything to both of us.”

“When we arrived at the hotel after the evacuation, we were broken. The B’Orcha community didn’t ask what we needed—they felt it. They showed up with potted plants, cakes and smiles. But the thing that touched me the deepest was the white tablecloth. In that impersonal hotel room, it symbolized everything – home, care, hope. That simple, but insightful gesture was an embrace that gave me strength to hold on, to keep going, and to believe there is goodness in the world.”
-Orna
Right now, B’Orcha is a growing grassroots movement, a local shul seeking to make an outsized impact across Israel.
But while societal challenges continue to accumulate, piling higher every day, our activities remain limited by the fact that we don’t have a real space to call our own.
We currently meet in an outdoor area protected only by a tin roof, and many of our events are organized out of our own homes. We’re ready to scale up, expanding our reach and our capacity to uplift people and bring them together.
In order to make this possible, we’re working on a proper building for our shul with the facilities needed to host events and function as a formal center of operations. This is a huge, transformative step in our growth as an organization.
Rav Avi was a pillar of the B’Orcha community.
He led us in bringing connection, hope, torah, chessed, and engagement to ever-growing circles of Israelis of all stripes.
Rav Avi died a hero’s death in October 2024, when he was killed serving as an IDF rabbi in Lebanon – the first and only IDF rabbi in the history of Israel to die in combat, fighting shoulder to shoulder with his soldiers.
Since Rav Avi’s death, his wife Rachel has become all the more committed to continuing his work, extending his impact, and bringing healing to the Jewish people in his memory.
